What Are Flexible Solar Panels?


Solar panels come in two types: monocrystalline and polycrystalline. Monocrystalline panels are made from a single silicon crystal ingot, while polycrystalline panels are made from silicon wafers that contain multiple individual silicon crystals. Polycrystalline panels are cheaper to make, but also less efficient than monocrystalline panels. The active cells of solar panels are rigid and typically as wide as a human hair. In contrast, flexible solar panels are much thinner, usually only a few microns wide, which allows some models to bend and flex.
